"For the Fallen" is a moving poem written by English poet Laurence Binyon in 1914, shortly after the retreat of English troops from Mons.
With deepest respect to those who lost their lives in World War 1, victims of the appalling adventurism of a bunch of European and English toffs, I have borrowed some of the enduring words of his poem to reflect the life of those living with cognitive impairment:
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will... try to remember our name, what day it is, and the name of the middle-aged woman sleeping next to us.
Then, in the tradition of the legendary Lost African Tribe, we'll wander aimlessly around the strange house we find ourselves in, mumbling "We're the Fukawi".
