Maybe Pilate was using "King of the Jews" in an offensive, pejorative sense - king of the shysters, the usurers, the con men.
The Roman Catholic Church certainly seems to have
taken on board this contemptuous description enthusiastically, as evidenced by
the obscene wealth and opulence of the church, their introspective
interpretation of the gospel based on the good of the church rather than the
good of humanity and their obsessive focus on matters sexual - their interpretation
of which apparently defines abstinence as applying only to sex with adult
females.
As Cardinal Pell explained to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, when asked why he took no action over complaints about sexual abuse of children by priests in his parish: "It wasn't of much interest to me."

(His ArseHoliness Pell obviously has no intellectual commitment to
the doctrines of his employer, otherwise he would be paralysed by fear at the
fate that surely awaits him in the special place reserved for him in hell.)

Sounds like it's all over, doesn't it, just three days before Cardinal George Pell is to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a committal hearing on multiple sexual abuse charges.
But in the body of the report, it becomes apparent that prosecutors have only withdrawn one charge, and have done so because the accuser has died.
The charges related to "multiple complainants" still stand.
